Update on Ohio Dentist and Wife Shooting Case
Columbus police have confirmed that a gun was involved in the tragic shooting deaths of an Ohio dentist, Spencer Tepe, and his wife, Monique, though specific details about the weapon remain unclear. Police Chief Elaine Bryant, in a statement to Fox News Digital, noted that investigators have tentatively connected a firearm found in the home of Michael McKee to the December 30 incident.
When questioned about the legality of the gun, Bryant said, “Unfortunately, I cannot answer that question at this time,” stating that ongoing investigations were still in progress. She did confirm, however, that preliminary findings indicate the recovered firearm was indeed the weapon used in the double murder.
According to police records, three spent 9mm shell casings were discovered at the crime scene and documented as evidence. These have been submitted to the Columbus Police Department’s property management for further examination, but the specific weapon used remains unnamed.
Bryant mentioned that the shell casings were part of a comparison process through the National Integrated Ballistics Information Network (NIBIN), though she did not disclose any specifics about compatibility with firearms.
A police report indicates that officers discovered both victims shot dead after being called for a welfare check. Both deaths have been classified as homicides.
Michael McKee, the ex-husband of Monique Tepe and a vascular surgeon from Chicago, has since been arrested in Rockford, Illinois, following police investigations that tracked his movements after the tragedy. Authorities collaborated with local and federal agencies to apprehend McKee, but specifics about the evidence collected during his arrest have not been shared.
In the indictment, McKee was linked to a vehicle that was seen arriving in the vicinity of the Tepes shortly before the shooting and leaving shortly after. This vehicle was later located in Rockford, confirming ties to McKee.
While police have labeled the incident as a targeted attack likely connected to domestic violence, they have not disclosed a clear motive or any prior communications between McKee and the victims.
“We know this is her ex-husband, so it’s related to domestic violence,” Bryant explained. She added that more details might emerge as the trial progresses, but currently, the motive remains unclear.
Authorities continue to urge anyone with information that might assist in the investigation to come forward, emphasizing that every detail counts. “Every family is important,” Bryant reiterated, highlighting the dedication of the police force to this case while balancing their ongoing responsibilities with other investigations.
