Weekend co-anchor Janai Norman has left 'Good Morning America': report

The weekend co-anchor of ABC’s “Good Morning America” has been let go after the Disney-owned network chose not to renew her contract, as reported recently.

Janay Norman, who became part of ABC News in 2016 and took on the co-anchor role of “GMA Weekend” in 2022, is set to part ways with the show. The exact date of her departure remains unclear, and it’s uncertain whether she will be reassigned within the organization.

An ABC News representative declined to provide any comments regarding the situation.

Since joining ABC News, Norman has worked as a correspondent and anchor across various programs.

In 2022, she was appointed co-anchor of “GMA Weekend,” working alongside Whit Johnson and Eva Pilgrim.

Prior to her weekend role, Norman served as a correspondent based in New York and also anchored early morning programs like “World News Now” and “America This Morning.”

Additionally, she hosted the “Pop News” segment on weekends and contributed to the launch of the second hour of “GMA” Saturday edition in 2019.

Before her time at ABC News, Norman worked at local stations in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Florida.

The “GMA” series has seen significant changes in recent years, particularly within its third-hour programming and weekend offerings.

In 2023, DeMarco Morgan and Pilgrim were appointed co-anchors of “GMA3: What You Need to Know” after the show had been without a permanent host following the exits of Amy Robach and TJ Holmes.

During this personnel shift, Gio Benitez joined the weekend lineup, aiming to stabilize co-anchor positions as the network navigates this transitional phase.

ABC is also placing a weekend anchor into streaming roles on ABC News Live, pushing further into digital platforms as part of a larger strategy to move beyond traditional television.
