The spouse of Weezer bassist Scott Schliner has been allowed to enter a two-year mental health diversion program after being arrested for allegedly firing a weapon at a police officer in Los Angeles.
Gillian Schliner, 52, was found to be “qualified and appropriate” for this mental health diversion. This program offers treatment in the community instead of a prison sentence for those with certain mental health or substance abuse issues.
“If she successfully completes the terms of diversion, the case will be dismissed by the court,” communicated the LA County District Attorney’s Office to NBC 4.
Earlier this year, Schliner was involved in a peculiar standoff with LAPD in April, during which she allegedly pointed a handgun while they were searching for a suspect connected to a nearby hit-and-run incident, according to police reports.
Despite multiple orders to drop the weapon, she reportedly refused and even provoked the officers to engage her.
Following the incident, she was taken to a hospital and later booked into jail, where she was released after posting a $1 million bail.
As part of the diversion program, LA County Superior Court Judge Susan De Witt implemented specific conditions, such as refraining from illegal drugs and alcohol. Schliner is required to attend weekly treatment sessions, undergo random substance testing, and participate in at least three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
Additionally, she is prohibited from possessing any firearms or knives while in the program. The district attorney’s office noted that any violations could lead to her diversion program being revoked.
She is set to return to court in LA on January 9th to report her progress in the program.
Scott and Gillian Schliner have been married since 2005 and have two adopted children together. Besides being linked to a rock star, Gillian, under her maiden name, has written several bestselling non-fiction books.
