The 2024 Wells Fargo Championship, a signature 68-player, no-cut event, begins Thursday morning at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Scottie Scheffler is out for this tournament, but Wells Fargo has a lot of star power at the top.
Rory McIlroy is the consensus betting favorite, but right behind him are Xander Schauffele, Windham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, and Max Homa.
The tough course and deep field could make this a tough tournament to win by a long shot, but reducing it to just one round could increase the volatility and start giving some players an advantage. there is.

Wells Fargo Championship First Round Leader Named
Denny McCarthy (50/1, BetMGM)
Backing Denny McCarthy in this market is never a bad idea.
One of the best putters in the game, McCarthy can get hot in the heat of the moment, and it’s hard to maintain that level for 72 holes, but it’s not that hard for just one round.
McCarthy’s track history at Quail Hollow looked ugly until last year, when he not only competed for the first time in four tries, but finished T8th.
Shane Lowry (45/1, fan duel)
There are several reasons why I like Shane Lowry overall this week.
For example, he came into the tournament having won a team event in New Orleans two weeks ago.
But more specific to this market is the fact that Lowry has a habit of getting off to strong starts in 2024. Only three players have averaged a higher first-round scoring average than Lowry this season.
The Irishman has a chance to win this tournament and I’ll be helping him lead the field after 18 holes.
I also like my chances of winning this tournament at +7000. He’s one of my two favorite long shots on the field.

Emiliano Grillo (90/1, Bet Rivers)
As always, 2024 has had its ups and downs for Emiliano Grillo, but the Argentine has certainly delivered strong results.
He has played in 10 of the 11 events on the PGA Tour this season and has two top-10 finishes, including a T8 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in early March.
He also has a decent course history with T9, T14, and T23 in his past three appearances at Quail Hollow.
