We’re Not Taking Anyone’s Guns, but We Must Ban AR-15s

Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris said she wouldn't take away anyone's guns, then immediately called for a ban on AR-15s during a Q&A with reporters at the National Association of Black Journalists on Tuesday.

Harris said“I'm a gun owner and Tim Walz is a gun owner. We're not trying to take away anyone's guns, but we do need to have an 'assault weapons' ban.”

Such a prohibition is If it was really forbidden The bill would take away currently owned AR-15 and AK-47 style rifles from law-abiding Americans.

A ban on AR-15s, AK-47s, and other firearms that Democrats call “assault weapons” has been part of Harris' gun control platform since she ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2019. Additionally, during her 2019 nomination campaign, Harris vowed to enact such a ban through executive action if elected.

On April 22, 2019, Breitbart News reported that Harris plans to give Congress 100 days to pass new gun control legislation if she wins the presidential election, and stated that if Congress fails to act, she will only use executive orders to achieve her desired gun control measures.

Then, on July 13, 2019, Harris again Pledged If she wins the presidential election, she will bypass Congress and enact gun control laws.

“Gun violence is the number one cause of death among young people,” Harris said. [b]”America doesn't have enough men. We have to stop this. If I become president, I will take executive action to keep guns out of the wrong hands.”

So…Harris wants to ban certain types of guns, but at the same time claims she's “not trying to take away anyone's guns.”
