Wesley Hunt Launches 'Don't Vote Democrat' Advertisement Criticizing Cornyn’s Stance on Gun Control and Immigration Policy

Rep. Wesley Hunt Targets Cornyn in Campaign Ad

Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Texas), aiming to challenge incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) in the upcoming Republican primary, has introduced a new satirical advertisement that criticizes Cornyn’s collaboration with Democrats on issues like gun control and immigration. Hunt contends that if Cornyn “votes like a Democrat” and “acts like a Democrat,” then “he must be a Democrat.”

The video, initially shared by Breitbart News before its official release, is set to be shown on various digital platforms and television as the competitive Texas Senate primary heats up.

The advertisement opens with Hunt positioned in a field beside a fence, flanked by two donkeys. This visual choice plays into his assertion that Cornyn has aligned himself with Democrats to pass legislation that many in the Republican party oppose.

“I’m Wesley Hunt, the guy who helped John Cornyn with gun control and amnesty and got 50,000 Afghan immigrants into this country,” Hunt proclaims while gesturing toward the donkeys.

He drives home the ad’s main point: “Vote like a Democrat, act like a Democrat. Be a Democrat.”

The video concludes with the message “Don’t Vote Democrat,” alongside an image of Cornyn next to a donkey with the U.S. Capitol in the backdrop.

Hunt’s campaign points out that Cornyn’s involvement in gun control relates to legislation he co-authored—the Safer Communities Act—which included provisions supported by Democrats.

Moreover, Hunt’s mention of “amnesty” refers to Cornyn’s past efforts during the 108th Congress where he sponsored a Temporary Guest Worker Program, described by critics as a form of amnesty.

On the subject of “50,000 Afghan immigrants,” the campaign highlighted Cornyn’s claims regarding his discussions with Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) about the HOPE Act for Special Immigrant Visas.

In a statement to Breitbart News accompanying the ad, Hunt expressed that this message resonates with the rising dissatisfaction among Texas Republicans.

“This ad delivers a sharp, witty and honest message about why Texans are ready to change their system and fire John Cornyn,” he stated.

He contrasted his approach with that of Cornyn’s campaign, remarking that while Cornyn resorted to AI-generated attack ads, his video is grounded in truth.

Hunt criticized Cornyn’s ongoing alliances with Democrats, saying they detract from fundamental conservative values.

“Like donkeys, facts are stubborn,” he noted. “John Cornyn worked with Democrats to pass red flag laws that threatened Second Amendment rights. He authored legislation to bring 50,000 unvetted Afghan immigrants into our country and continually supports open borders and globalist policies that disadvantage Texas.”

“Texans deserve better,” he concluded.

Hunt framed the primary as a generational conflict, encouraging Republican voters to reject past politics.

“On March 3, voters will choose strength over weakness, leadership over complacency, and the future over the past,” he said. “It’s time for a new generation of leadership in Texas.”

Keeping in line with the ad’s satirical nature, he added, “Texas voters have been hurt by Cornyn’s record for decades. Fortunately, no animals were harmed during the filming of this ad.”

The advertisement runs during a competitive primary race among Cornyn, Hunt, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R-Texas).

A recent JL Partners poll from February 5 shows Paxton with a slight lead, while Hunt and Cornyn are reportedly tied. According to the survey, Hunt boasts the highest net favorability rating at +42, followed by Paxton at +27 and Cornyn at +14.

Notably, former President Donald Trump has yet to endorse a candidate in this Texas Senate race.

If no candidate secures over 50% of the votes by March 3, the top two will advance to a runoff later in the spring.
