Evan Roberts had a message for the “fat” Rangers fans who celebrated Sunday’s unlikely overtime 6-5 victory over the Islanders in the Stadium Series.
“To all the fat Rangers fans who came out of that building last night, beating your chest, knowing that this is your brother, that brother, the same crap that the game is being played on at UBS. I came out with my heart pounding.” Roberts told WFA on Monday.. “You don’t get extra points just because it’s MetLife Stadium.”
Roberts was certainly salty after the Islanders took a two-goal lead with less than five minutes left in the MetLife Stadium outdoor spectacle.
The Isles led 4-1 and 5-3, but were unable to close the door on the game, allowing the tying goal with 1:29 left in regulation time, but allowing the winning goal 10 seconds into overtime.
Roberts went on a rant Monday during a conversation with his son about the importance of the game.
“My youngest son said, “Dad, what does that mean?” and how Lou Lamoriello lives on a free pass and all that,” Roberts said on “Evan & Tiki” with Tiki Barber. “Then I realized, I looked into his young eyes and said, ‘That doesn’t mean anything, son.’ This was a regular hockey game. It was typical of the Islanders all season long. It was no different than the shit we saw a month or two ago. It’s the same. Beautifully dressed and sure enough we were all trapped.”
Roberts’ comments also appeared to be fueled by the fact that co-host Sean Morasch, a well-known Rangers fan, reveled in the victory, which Morasch later claimed would be included on the championship DVD.

The Rangers lead the Metropolitan Division with 75 points, while the Islanders are outside of the playoffs with 58 points.
A Rangers Roberts fan said: “The other thing is, stop acting like you’re the Yankees. They’ve won once in 70 years.”
