Wham!’s Last Christmas remains top of UK singles chart for another week | UK charts

Wham! One week after becoming the No. 1 song on Christmas 2024, “Last Christmas” continues to be a belated festivities even after it remains at the top of the singles chart.

The pop duo of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley made history last week when their 1984 single 'Last Christmas' became the first to reach No1 in the UK Christmas charts for the second consecutive year.

Thirty-nine years after the song was initially denied the coveted position by Band Aid's 'Do They Know It's Christmas?', the band finally took the top spot at the festival.

And on Friday, the duo marked their 10th consecutive week at the top of the UK singles chart with their famous celebratory song. The song first topped the singles chart on January 1, 2021, more than five years after Michael passed away at the age of 53 on Christmas Day 2016.

Ridgley told Official Chart last week that Michael would be “deeply delighted” that the song had become a celebratory classic. While “Last Christmas'' continues to hold the number one spot, Mariah Carey's “All I Want for Christmas Is You'' rises to second place.

Carey's song finally reached the top of the charts in 2020, after losing out to East 17's “Stay Another Day” at the top when it was released in 1994.

This week, Little Bits of Love singer Tom Grennan's new song “It Can't Be Christmas,'' a collaboration with Amazon Music Original, rose from 4th to 3rd place.

Brenda Lee's 1958 hit “Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree” ranks No. 4 on the list of festive favorites, while Bobby Helms' 1957 song “Jingle Bell Rock” ranks No. 5 I went in.

All spots in the top 10 were taken by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl's “New York Fairy Tale” (6 songs), Kelly Clarkson's “Underneath the Tree” (7 songs) and Ariana Grande's “Santa・Tell Me (8 songs), Band Aid's “Do They Know It'' and other festive songs from Christmas week made the list. Christmas? ' (9) and 'Sir Elton John's Steps into Christmas' (10).

On the album chart, Canadian singer Michael Bublé returns to number one after missing out on the top spot last week, while American pop star Sabrina Carpenter takes the title of Christmas No. 1 album with “Short and Sweet.'' .
