What Brian Daboll is sharing with coaches regarding the Giants' opportunity, Jaxson Dart

Daboll’s Positive Remarks on Giants’ Future Candidates

Brian Daboll isn’t exactly gushing over his past experience like someone caught in a breakup.

As noted by Deanna Russini from The Athletic, the former head coach of the Giants expressed admiration for both the team’s owner and quarterback Jackson Dart when discussing the interest in his old position.

“I’ve talked to some coaches who are eager about the Giants job, and they had great things to say about Daboll, especially regarding Jackson,” Russini shared on Thursday’s “Giants Huddle” podcast. “He mentioned ownership and Jackson in conversations they had—what you might call behind-the-scenes talk. Everyone’s trying to glean information. They need to have a sense of what they’re stepping into, or else it’s a bit of a gamble.”

Similar to other fields, coaches tend to share insights about their experiences, which can significantly affect the reputation of a team.

There’s a clear distinction between franchises viewed as less desirable due to their ownership dynamics and those regarded as top-tier opportunities.

Daboll’s enthusiastic comments about his former team are noteworthy, especially considering his exit wasn’t exactly smooth—it followed a mid-season firing that might leave some residual tension.

During his tenure, which lasted over three seasons, he tallied a record of 20-40-1. His first season was promising, but subsequent years didn’t yield the same outcomes.

His commendation of the owner and quarterback is significant, especially since these are crucial points that the Giants aim to emphasize in attracting strong candidates after nearly a decade of underperformance.

John Mara, recognized as a dedicated owner, has seen his team struggle since their last Super Bowl win in 2012, achieving just a single playoff victory since then.

Dart, fresh off a rookie season, may offer a unique advantage to the new coach, especially if they believe in his potential as the former Ole Miss standout.

The Giants are already in the process of interviewing potential candidates, with notable figures like former Ravens coach John Harbaugh and former Browns coach Kevin Stefanski making headlines.

As it stands, Dart even seemed to reference these coaches during an ESPN broadcast while the Rebels faced off against Miami in the College Football Playoff on Thursday.
