The Conclusion of the 2026 Winter Olympics
This Sunday marks the end of the 2026 Winter Olympics. Team USA just clinched a victory over Canada in a thrilling overtime match for the men’s ice hockey gold medal, and now we look forward to the closing ceremony and the passing of the torch for the next Olympics.
Upcoming Olympic Games
So, when’s the next Olympic Games? Back in 1994, the International Olympic Committee made changes to the scheduling of the Summer and Winter Olympics. Before that, both were held in the same year every four years. Now, the events alternate every two years, ensuring there’s always something to look forward to. The 1994 Winter Olympics took place in Lillehammer, Norway, followed by the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
Looking ahead, the Summer Olympics are set for 2028, and interestingly enough, some of you might find these games right in your own neighborhood. The 2028 Summer Olympics will take place in Los Angeles, although a few events are spreading out across the United States. For instance, preliminary soccer matches are scheduled for New York City, Columbus, Ohio, St. Louis, Missouri, and other spots. Plus, you’ll find softball and canoe slalom events hosted in Oklahoma.
This will be the first time the Olympics return to the United States since the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, and it’s been a long wait for the Summer Olympics, which last graced the U.S. in 1996 in Atlanta. It’s worth noting that this will mark Los Angeles’ third time hosting the Summer Olympics; they previously hosted in 1932 and 1984.
Next Winter Olympics Location
If you’ve been engrossed in the winter sports lately—perhaps curling or ski mountaineering, which is a new addition to the Winter Olympics—you might be wondering about the next Winter Olympics. Scheduled for 2030, these games will take place in the French Alps. The main events will be held in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regions, with the ice events taking place in Nice.
France has a rich history with the Winter Olympics, having hosted them three times: in Chamonix in 1924, Grenoble in 1968, and Albertville in 1992.
