What Jets have to weigh in winding down Aaron Rodgers

On the day Aaron Rodgers celebrated his 41st birthday, he received a gift from his interim head coach, a commitment from Jeff Ulbrich to start Sunday against the Dolphins, and a healthy commitment as well.

Ulbrich asked seven consecutive questions about Rodgers to begin Monday's press conference, defending the future Hall of Famer with every answer.

These weren't the usual questions about the underwhelming Gang Green offense, which was less than explosive under Rodgers. These were about his short-term future as the Jets' starter, and were clearly tied to the quarterback change that Ulbrich left open as a possibility right after the Week 13 loss. Forget what happens to Rodgers in the offseason. Forget if he retires, if he comes back, if he returns to his dark lair once more in the skycave of southern Oregon.

It's far from a guarantee that Rodgers will finish the regular season as the Jets' starting quarterback, a scenario that would have been shocking 21 months ago.
