What Might Have Required Decades To Resolve, Trump Accomplished In Six Months

University of Pennsylvania Adapts to Trump Administration’s Stance on Transgender Athletes

On Tuesday, the University of Pennsylvania announced its compliance with the Trump administration regarding transgender athletes.

This development seemed to signal a shift in the left’s strategy, perhaps an acknowledgment of losing some ground. It wasn’t a sudden change of heart—I mean, no one just wakes up one day and realizes they’ve been wrong all along. Rather, this shift can be attributed to President Donald Trump’s commitment to advocate for women.

Reports indicate that Trump’s administration has enacted a contract with UPenn, which involves stripping the school of athletic records and recognitions related to competitions against women’s teams.

Just last year, I, too, thought the fight against transgender policies in sports would take years to resolve. We’ve certainly made significant progress in public discourse, but major U.S. institutions still seemed firmly aligned with the left’s more extreme perspectives. The Biden administration had exerted considerable pressure, using federal resources to promote transgender ideology, essentially mandating schools to accommodate biological males in spaces historically reserved for women.

It felt as if we’d have to grapple with the repercussions of decisions made during Biden’s presidency for a long time. However, that’s not how Trump operates. He doesn’t favor the slow, bureaucratic processes many are accustomed to. If he spots a problem, he jumps in quickly, eager for solutions.

The University of Pennsylvania had first gained notoriety for allowing “Lea” Thomas, a biological male swimmer, to compete against women. Despite a lackluster performance among male competitors, Thomas excelled in women’s competitions.

At the 2022 NCAA Championship, he finished the 500-yard women’s final nearly two seconds ahead of his closest rival. This blatant difference in physicality began shifting perspectives, even among those who typically avoided the contentious topic of transgender athletes.

Women began to voice their opposition to Thomas’s participation in women’s swimming. This indeed became a pivotal moment for social discussion. Trump not only voiced his dissent but became the first high-profile leader to take concrete actions. He enacted executive orders and legislative measures aimed at countering incidents like Thomas’s.

UPenn found itself under scrutiny from federal investigations regarding its adherence to transgender policies, raising serious concerns about safety and equity for female athletes. In March, the Trump administration suspended $175 million in federal funding to UPenn. The school ultimately made a deal to avoid losing financial support and facing other consequences.

This agreement not only severed ties with policies perceived to undermine women’s safety but also issued an apology to female athletes who felt disregarded and marginalized due to the university’s stance, reaffirming biological definitions of “male” and “female.”

In just six months of his term, Trump has demonstrated genuine commitment to his promise of protecting women and girls from the implications of transgender ideology. This electoral outcome is significant. American women won a great victory last November, and UPenn’s recent actions serve as a testament to that achievement.
