Sean McVay has been having sweet dreams since last week when the Rams were re-uploaded at quarterback, who won a certain Super Bowl.
Speaking to reporters Monday, the 39-year-old Rams coach said he's “slept better for the last few days” after veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford agreed to stay with his team on a restructured contract on Friday after a brief cheating with the Giants and the Raider.
“I couldn't be more grateful. I'm really excited about it.” McVay saidnine seasons before the team.
Stafford led the Rams to a split-round playoff berth after losing to the final Super Bowl champion Eagles in January, but was allowed to speak to other teams in February.
The 37-year-old quarterback has sought a new contract in his $50 million neighborhood per season, bringing in suitors from the signal-starved Raiders and Giants.
The Giants are looking for answers at quarterback following a rocky five-season run with Daniel Jones – discussed the $90-$100 million deal, confirmed Post's Paul Schwartz.
Stafford, which traded to LA in 2021 after 12 seasons in Detroit, was due to earn $23 million in base salary in 2025, with a $4 million roster bonus to be paid on the third day of the new league year. According to Spotrac.
A day after the Rams confirmed they were running Stafford, quarterback's wife Kelly took her to social media to celebrate.
“There's no place like Home @Rams,” she posted on Instagram.
Stafford and Kelly have been married since 2015 and are the parents of four daughters.
Last month, Kelly spoke candidly about the offseason uncertainty regarding the popular “Morning After After” podcast.
“I love the city of LA…and I love the life we've built here,” Kelly said. “That being said, I love adventures. I'm everything for it. Now, if the Rams decide they want to trade him, or if Matthew doesn't want to play for the Rams, I'm fine. Move my family, yeah, that can be difficult – the first month is hard.
Stafford has led the Rams to the playoffs in three of their past four seasons. He won his first Super Bowl in his first season with the team in 2022.
The Rams finished 10-7 this year, winning the NFC West.
As for the Giants, they pivoted on a potential Aaron Rodgers Plan B.
