What Shedeur Sanders isn't fond of from Browns fans following a challenging debut

Shedur Sanders Appreciates Fan Support, But There’s a Concern

Shedur Sanders, the backup quarterback for the Browns, acknowledges he has a solid fan base, but perhaps their enthusiasm might be a bit overwhelming.

As he ran onto the field to kick off the second half of a tight 16-10 game—after starter Dillon Gabriel left due to a concussion—Sanders felt the crowd’s energetic cheer.

At just 23, he expressed gratitude for the support from fans. However, he noted an essential point to consider.

“Yes, I’m really appreciative,” he stated during a press conference. “But let me clarify: when Dillon’s on the field, he’s thankful for the fans, of course. But I guess he doesn’t always feel—comfortable, you know? It really puts a strain on everything when he’s not confident, and that doesn’t help the team either.”

It’s possible fans didn’t expect Gabriel to be sidelined and thought Sanders would seamlessly take over, given the timing of the situation.

Regardless, Sanders wants to avoid being a distraction, especially considering the buzz surrounding his decision to withdraw prior to the NFL Draft.

“Some might see it as me getting sidetracked, but that’s not what I’m about,” he mentioned. “Honestly, I’m focused. Still, I genuinely appreciate all the support. Walking onto that field, I could really feel it. And seeing fans in those 12 jerseys? That was something special.”

In his debut NFL game on Sunday, Sanders encountered difficulties, completing just 4 of 16 passes for 47 yards and throwing an interception, with the Browns not scoring at all in the second half.

He did manage three carries for 16 yards, contributing a bit more to the effort.

With Gabriel now in the concussion protocol, it’s quite possible that Sanders will be starting in Week 12 as the Browns prepare to face the Raiders in Las Vegas.
