Tyler Glasnow Stays Put
Tyler Glasnow is going nowhere. Despite reports of the Dodgers eyeing Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal, Glasnow recently dismissed rumors about him being a possible trade candidate.
In a Sunday interview on MLB Network radio, the former All-Star revealed that, while he had heard some speculation, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman told him directly that he wouldn’t be traded. “I had seen some rumors about me being traded for him and I didn’t know what to believe,” Glasnow shared.
He went on to say, “But I talked to [Andrew Friedman], and the front office was like, ‘No, we’re not going anywhere.’ They assured me I wasn’t getting traded, and I trust them.”
Interestingly, the recent winter meetings sparked discussions around the defending champions aiming to boost their rotation, particularly with the current Cy Young winner who has an impressive 2.68 ERA over 104 postseason innings. Meanwhile, Glasnow recently posted a standout 1.69 ERA and racked up 25 strikeouts in just six postseason games, all while managing injuries. He’s seen as a dependable asset, especially since he’s under contract until 2028, though reports say he has been mentioned in trade talks.
ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez noted in a December 11 piece that “Tyler Glasnow’s name has been talked about, and the Dodgers wouldn’t mind moving him,” hinting at the value of his contract.
During the winter meetings, Tigers president Scott Harris emphasized that Skubal, who won his second consecutive Cy Young Award with an impressive 2.21 ERA and 241 strikeouts over 195.1 innings, is not exactly available, especially after the team’s playoff exit.
Glasnow, a 32-year-old from Southern California, expressed his hope to play for the Dodgers, stating, “I think if we go out and get him, we’re going to be in trouble. He’s probably one of the most incredible pitchers I’ve ever seen.”
The Dodgers have plenty of trade assets at their disposal, but they might need to think outside the box to acquire Detroit’s talented lefty without parting with Glasnow.
LA’s rotation is already impressive, featuring talents like Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell, Aki Sasaki, and current World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
The Dodgers remain aggressive in their offseason moves, having just signed former Mets closer Edwin Diaz to a three-year, $69 million deal.
