What the Rangers should target before trade deadline

Let's talk more about the trade deadline plans I focused on at the beginning of Monday's latest article about the Rangers.

As of now, the Blueshirts do not have a second-round draft pick for the next three years. This means a position that is unsustainable in the long run, even with high-profile candidates Gabe Perreault, Drew Fortescue and E.J. Emery.

But GM Chris Drury traded away all those seconds and as many thirds through rental deals and the release of Patrick Nemeth, helping his team reach the conference finals in two of the last three years. has a chance to reverse that lead. Until the deadline of March 7th.

For the first time since 2019, when Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes were both dealt a year after the 2018 purge, the Blueshirts will be sellers rather than buyers. Or it most certainly will be, despite regaining some credibility by going 4-1-1 over the last six games.
