What to anticipate at the Army’s 250th anniversary and military parade

What to expect at Army's 250th celebration and military parade

On June 14th, the US Army will mark 250 years of service with a grand military parade in the nation’s capital.

This celebration, which has been in the works for quite some time, encompasses much more than just the parade.

The date coincides with President Trump’s 79th birthday. During his first term, he had envisioned a grand military parade, but it was ultimately shelved because of the steep expenses involved. Now, the Army’s anniversary celebrations will include this parade, which is estimated to cost between $25 million and $45 million.

The day’s events will kick off with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia, and will conclude with a gathering just south of the White House.

Here’s a look at some of the day’s activities.

Fitness Competition

Starting at 9:30 AM, fourteen of the Army’s strongest soldiers will compete against the EDT in a fitness challenge at the National Mall.

“It’s reminiscent of the CrossFit games, for those familiar with it. Should be a lot of fun with senior leaders in attendance, providing a chance to connect with the military participants,” Army Secretary Commander Stephen Warren mentioned during a media briefing.

The competition is set to last two hours and will be streamed live.

Army Festival

The Army festival will kick off at 11 AM, featuring a variety of festivities and engaging with service members.

Warren described it as “family-friendly, free, and located in the mall with musical performances.”

Performers lined up for the occasion include Noah Hicks, Scotty Hasting, and DJ Nila.

Kids will have space to showcase their athletic abilities in the NFL-sponsored kid’s zone. Washington Commander Dan Quinn will also be present to interact with Medal of Honor recipients, NASA astronauts, and children participating in sports activities. The festival is scheduled to wrap up at 6 PM.

Parade

The Army parade will begin at 6 PM near the Pentagon and will feature an array of military equipment.

Among the exhibits will be M777 and M119 Howitzers, 28 M1 tanks, and 28 Bradley Fighting Vehicles. Additionally, several infantry units and helicopters will participate, moving along Constitution Avenue.

Warren indicated that there would be a notable aerial component, showcasing over 50 helicopters including 64 Apaches, 60 Blackhawks, and 47 Chinooks.

Also on display will be historical military equipment like World War II aircraft, including Sherman Tanks, B-25 bombers, P-51 Mustang fighters, and C-47 transport planes.

He even mentioned 34 horses, two mules, a wagon, and a dog will also take part.

Trump Addresses Soldiers

Once the parade concludes, the Army’s Golden Knights parachute team will present President Trump with a folded flag.

Then, around 7:30 PM, Trump is expected to take the oath of office alongside about 2,500 soldiers, future soldiers, re-enlisted soldiers, and new enlistees.

Concerts and Fireworks

The evening will culminate around 8 PM with a musical performance, followed by fireworks around 9:45 PM.
