Fans around the world are mourning the sudden death of One Direction member Liam Payne.
Payne died on October 16 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31 years old.
The musician was a member of boy band One Direction, which also featured Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik. The group was formed by Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger after they auditioned separately on The X Factor.
After five chart-topping studio albums and four world tours, One Direction announced an indefinite hiatus in 2016 to pursue solo projects. By the time of his death, Payne had released one solo studio album, two extended shows, and 14 singles, and had begun his own journey.

Authorities release preliminary autopsy results for Liam
Payne died briefly on Wednesday “as a result of a fall from the balcony of the third-floor hotel room where he was staying in the Buenos Aires district of Palermo,” the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecution Bureau 16 said. Led by Marcelo Roma.
The coroner's report said Payne died of “multiple trauma” and “internal and external bleeding.”

The report says the circumstances surrounding Payne's death are still under investigation as “suspicious” but it appears Payne was alone at the time of the fall and the musician was “experiencing some type of outbreak due to substance abuse.”
Forensic experts reported that 25 injuries were found to be “consistent with a fall from a height,” according to the autopsy report. They also noted that “while the craniocerebral injury was sufficient to cause death, internal and external hemorrhage of the skull, thorax, abdomen, and extremities contributed to the mechanism of death.”
Payne's toxicology report has not been released at this time.

Panicked hotel staff calls 911 before falling to death
Hotel staff called 911 one minute before Payne fell from the hotel balcony. The “Teardrops” singer is said to have been drunk and “disrupted the whole room,” according to a recording of the call obtained by Reuters.

“We have a guest who is intoxicated with drugs and alcohol. And he… breaks down when he's conscious and destroys the whole room. And, yeah, please send someone, please.” 911 According to a phone call from the Casasul Palermo Hotel:
“We'd like to send someone quickly, but we don't know if our guest's life is in danger. He has a room with a balcony. Besides, we don't know if he's in any danger. I'm a little worried that he might do something.'' His life is in danger.'' ”

Alberto Crescenti, head of the state's emergency medical system, told Argentina's Todo Noticias television that Payne had fallen into the courtyard of Palermo's Casa Sur Hotel, refusing to provide further information about the incident, the paper said. He said he did.

Two weeks before Payne's sudden death, he and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy traveled to Argentina to see fellow One Direction member Niall Horan perform.
The pair had only planned to spend five days in Buenos Aires, but it appears they have extended their trip. Cassidy had returned home several days before Payne fell from a hotel balcony.
The influencer shared with her TikTok followers that she chose to leave earlier than Payne because she felt the “need” to return to Florida.
“Honestly, I love South America, but I hate staying in one place for too long,” she said in a video shared days before Payne's death.

Cassidy took to Instagram on Friday to ask for “space” to move on with her life without Payne.
“Thank you for all the kind words and love shown to me. I was completely at a loss,” she wrote. “Nothing has felt real these past few days. I ask and pray that you will give me grace and space to work through this situation privately.

“Liam, my angel. You are everything,” she added. “I want you to know that I loved you completely and unconditionally. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you, Liam.”

The day after Payne's death was announced, the other members of One Direction released a joint statement.

Liam leaves behind a 7-year-old son
Payne leaves behind a 7-year-old son, Bear, whom he shared with ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole. Payne and Cole met when Payne auditioned for The X Factor at the age of 14. Cole was a judge at the time.
