The Postal Service announced that it will not increase postal service fees in January. In other words, the shipping charges for regular letters will remain the same.
The rate change is part of the agency's 10-year modernization plan, Delivering for America, to achieve fiscal sustainability. Postal officials say the adjustments will help support $40 billion in planned investments in personnel, technology and infrastructure improvements.
Unlike postal service rates, which are tied to the Consumer Price Index, delivery service prices are adjusted based on market conditions.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars to fund its operations, but relies on postage and product sales to fund its operations.
