Frequent miler team many credit card. But many of those cards are held primarily for perks. Whether it's lounge access, elite status, annual credits, or collectibles, there are many cards that we own and hold… somewhere in our sock drawer or filing cabinet. I sometimes like to share the cards that are in my actual wallet, the cards that I carry with me every day. I do not have I would say this is a great collection of cards to have and use. In fact, if you read the notes below, you'll see that I have some less-than-ideal cards right now. Still, I feel it's worth occasionally taking a peek and sharing what I actually carry. Even if nothing else, to keep me honest and give me the inspiration I need to improve my daily wallet.
As before, please note that this is not all of the cards I own. Between my wife and I, we literally have dozens of credit cards. These are not the cards I use either in most cases. surely, largely Of the money I spend, I either use cards online that I don't need to keep in my wallet every day, or I swap out cards in my wallet for specific purposes (e.g. , office supply store) if you know you're going on a trip. The cards below are what you would find if you stopped me on the street today and asked to see the contents of my wallet.
I currently have it in my wallet (with explanation)
Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Card (3x Dining, Grocery, Entertainment)

Lately, I've been carrying my Capital One Savor card for meals and grocery purchases, but that's not always the case. make sense. Because I currently have an Amex Gold Card that earns me 4 points per dollar on dining and 4 points per dollar on up to $25,000 of eligible purchases annually at U.S. supermarkets. You can earn points (1x at the time). The Capital One Savor card has no annual fee, but I still did the math last year and decided to keep the Gold card. So what do we get here?
I can't justify carrying around a saver card — I should Must have a gold card. But here's why Saber is in my wallet.
- Amex is widely accepted, but not everywhere. My Savor card is a Mastercard, so it's widely accepted.
- Saber card also has bonuses entertainment. I've found this useful many times over the past few months, from purchases at Disney to all kinds of tourism-related things.
- Long term, I'd like to have a higher limit on Capital One (it's an older card that wasn't used much before the product changed to the Savor card). So I'm trying to load the next card into this card. Use it when it's convenient.
To be clear, the Savor card earns 3% cash back on meals, groceries, and entertainment. However, if you have a Capital One card that earns miles, you can redeem your rewards at a value of $0.01 = 1 mile (this conversion only works in that direction), so I would consider this one with no annual fee. Viewed as a 3x transferable currency card.
Blue Business Plus (2x anywhere up to $50,000, then 1x)

This card has been out of my wallet for a while because the cost of paying for a transferable currency card seems a bit high, even though my replacement card is a Bank of America card with Platinum Honors status. Although Platinum Honors status will not be maintained forever, it is still earned for the time being. So you can earn a base rate of 2.625% anywhere on the Bank of America Unlimited Cash Rewards card. This means that if you choose 2x Earnings on Blue Business Plus, you will miss out on the opportunity to earn 2.625 pennies. That's like paying 1.31 cents per Membership Rewards point. This can be a decent deal, especially if you're redeeming Membership Rewards points for premium cabins on international flights, but it's not necessarily a bad deal.
But I usual I have enough Amex points that I'm not a “buyer” at 1.31 cents each (i.e. I don't usually pick two Amex points for more than 2.625%). However, I used my points a lot last year, so I've been carrying around my Blue Business Plus card for a while now as I accumulate points. That being said, I think this card's time in my wallet is almost over and it will be put back in the sock drawer for some future rainy day.
Amex Platinum (New Card) for Schwab Customers

I recently got the Schwab Platinum Card. As I've said before, I don't usually carry around new cards that I can spend “anywhere” because I like to accomplish my spending needs once or twice, like paying taxes. Nevertheless, I tossed it into my wallet for a quick “walk around town” expense. In any case, I sometimes prefer to use the Platinum Card for purchase protection. I don't mind making a small number of somewhat ideal purchases with my new card. This will immediately go to an unused compartment in your wallet and wait for the day you need it to access Plaza Premium, Centurion, or Escape Lounge.
US Bank Altitude Reserve (3x Travel)

US Bank Altitude Reserve (Unfortunately, we are not currently accepting applications) generally These points are stored on my phone and I get 3x profits in my mobile wallet. You'll effectively get 4.5% back anywhere you can tap your phone and pay with Google Pay (or Apple Pay if you're an Apple user). Because points are worth 1.5 cents for travel. Book through US Bank or Real-time Mobile Rewards. In fact, this is my go-to card when spending money in person. With this card, your wallet will rarely come out of your pocket.
However, I also carry a physical card in my wallet to present at check-in for paid hotel stays. However, note that my wife has a Sapphire Reserve and it often makes more sense to use her card (although I pay the Authorized User fee to add to it). I don't want to, so I live on triple the altitude reserve (I don't usually have many paid stays anyway).
Amex Business Gold (4x on my top two spending categories, gas and dining)

I keep my Amex Business Gold Card hidden in my wallet to use for meals and gas when I can. That's because the card gives you 4x more money in your two biggest spending categories each month. For me, it's usually gas and food (I know a lot of people these days are trying to get the most out of their computer services, but I took a break there).
Note that this is not the best card for gas. I should Because when you use your Wyndham Earner Business card for gas, you earn 8x more on your purchases. However, I had left my wallet with my Wyndham card at home and was hoping they would find it rather than calling Barclays to replace it (thankfully I know the wallet is at home) somewhere). I don't fill up the tank all that often, so I've given myself a long grace period to put off that request, but maybe it's time to do so.
Chase Ritz Carlton (travel included)

I carry my Chase Ritz-Carlton card in my wallet. Because when I travel alone, I often use this card for reward taxes (I don't care about the difference between 2x Marriott points and 3x transferable points when I pay $5.60 in taxes per trip). ). domestic flights). I keep this card on hand in case I need to make any charges (but I keep this card mostly for its amazing benefits). I also keep it on hand for travel incidentals that I think Ritz Airlines fare credits may apply to. “What works well” is very wide With that card, I usually only use it for natural incidental purchases without sweating whether it will work reliably (in any case, I always make $300 in quick charges) ). For example, I flew Southwest Airlines yesterday and purchased in-flight Wi-Fi for $8. I charged it to my Ritz card, so I think I'll probably get a refund. Other than these occasional situations, I don't often take this card out of my wallet.
SoFi Money (Debit)

This only makes sense to me because I have a very old SoFi Money card. My SoFi Money card was opened years ago when SoFi was offering ATM fee rebates at basically every ATM in the world. They have since switched it to a specific (larger) ATM network, but I still continue to benefit from ATM fee rebates around the world. Since I have a Schwab account, I can get a Schwab Investor Checking account and get the ATM fee rebate on that account's debit card, but be aware that the rebate works differently for that card . I believe my Schwab account refunds ATM fees in one lump sum each month, but my SoFi Money debit card refunds them immediately after I use the ATM. It's not a huge difference in practice, but I've continued to keep this card because I like the fact that I can immediately see when ATM fee refunds will be refunded.
Please note that SoFi sent me a million notifications to “upgrade” to a new type of SoFi Money account, but I declined all of them because I needed this feature . I don't have enough money in this account to worry about the interest I'm losing, but rather just enough to have the cash I need in a pinch.
conclusion
I would like to reiterate that I am not insinuating that this is a problem. wonderful Wallets, ideal wallets, things like that. And maybe that's giving the wrong impression: I spend more money on cards like this. it's not That's because the card I use to pay my regular bills (when I use my computer at home) isn't always in my wallet. But as I mentioned at the beginning, I like to look at my physical wallet from time to time and share with my readers what I have and why. That's what keeps me honest. In this case, you can call Barclays today to have your Wyndham card replaced and get it back in your wallet for 8x gas.
