New HBO Crime Drama “Task” Premieres Tonight
It’s a big night for HBO! A new crime drama titled Task, created by Brad Ingelsby, known for Mare of Easttown, is debuting tonight on both HBO and HBO Max. Much like Mare, this series is set in the Philadelphia suburbs, which are filled with familiar spots like Wawa, Rita’s water ice, and those gathering places where people exchange heartfelt conversations. Yet, unlike Kate Winslet’s series, Task doesn’t zoom in on a single detective or case; instead, it showcases a wide array of intriguing characters entwined in the world of armed robbery.
The story revolves around Robbie Prendergrast, played by Tom Pelphrey, who works as a garbage collector but has a sideline in robbing local dealers during significant drug transactions. Robbie and his crew are particularly targeting the Dark Heart, a notoriously violent motorcycle gang operating in rural Pennsylvania. As these heists escalate gang tensions, FBI agent Tom Brandis, played by Mark Ruffalo, is pulled from his routine career fairs to lead a task force aimed at stopping Robbie and his associates before the situation spins out of control.
Throughout the seven episodes, viewers will get to know Robbie and Tom while also diving into the complex lives of supporting characters. Expect to learn about Robbie’s family struggles, the personal tragedies in Brandis’s past, and the various threats facing the Dark Heart organization.
