Netanyahu Addresses UN General Assembly on Terrorism

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu conveyed a strong message at the UN General Assembly on Friday, affirming Israel’s commitment to combating terrorism.

As he delivered his speech, Netanyahu wore a notable pin featuring a QR code that directs viewers to a presentation on the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack. Outside, a large billboard in Times Square reminded everyone not to forget that date.

Before he started speaking, several delegations, primarily from Muslim countries, exited the hall while Israel’s allies applauded Netanyahu with a lengthy standing ovation.

In his address, Netanyahu recounted a recent military operation against Hezbollah in Lebanon, lauding Israel’s military prowess. He emphasized the nation’s struggle against Iranian forces throughout the Middle East, reflecting on Israel’s military success in a conflict that decimated a significant portion of Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

“Israel has emerged from its darkest hour to achieve remarkable military victories,” he stated. However, he acknowledged that more challenges lie ahead.

Speaking directly to the hostages, he alternated between Hebrew and English, mentioning that he had set up speakers near the Gaza border to broadcast his words. “We haven’t forgotten you, even for a moment,” he assured them.

Netanyahu pointed out that his speeches are also transmitted live via mobile phones in Gaza, ensuring that hostages hear his message while making demands for their release.

He later criticized nations that have condemned Israel’s operations against Hamas, particularly those accusing Israel of “genocide” or moving to recognize a Palestinian state while hostages remain captive.

“When it gets tough,” he said. He noted that while Israel defends itself against terrorism, many countries have fallen prey to Hamas’s propaganda, undermining Israel’s position amid the conflict.

He further claimed that the groundless accusations against Israel revive deep-seated anti-Semitic sentiments from the past.

Netanyahu expressed gratitude for the Trump administration’s efforts to combat anti-Semitism and called for all nations to join in that fight. He critiqued leaders who have acknowledged Palestinian statehood, arguing that it sends a troubling message that “killing Jews will go unpunished,” leading to increased terrorism beyond just Israel.

As discussions around a two-state solution surfaced, he highlighted the “uncomfortable truth” that the Palestinian leadership’s rejection of a Jewish state fuels ongoing violence.

He added that Christians under Palestinian governance don’t fare well, reinforcing his viewpoint against the establishment of a Palestinian state, which he claimed is shared by over 90% of Israelis.

Netanyahu assured that Israel would not buckle under external pressure, unlike some Western leaders. He emphasized Israel’s intent to pursue an agreement with neighboring countries and extended an invitation for dialogue with Lebanon.

Praising the Indonesian president’s recent remarks that advocated for Israel’s security, he expressed hope that the Iranian populace will rise against their regime, echoing a sentiment that they should “make Iran great again.”

In closing, he commended front-line Israeli soldiers, expressing belief that divine support would guide them to a future filled with victory, prosperity, and peace.
