The Jets have a head coach.
Now they have to find a general manager.
Now that Aaron Glenn has completed his contract to become the Jets' new head coach, the team will focus on second-round interviews for the GM job, according to sources.
Assistant Commandant Lance Newmark interviewed at Florham Park on Tuesday.
He was the first candidate to receive a second interview, and people considered him to be the best candidate for the job.
Newmark worked with Glenn for three seasons with the Lions and spent 26 seasons with Detroit before joining the Commanders in 2024.
However, he leaves Florham Park without a contract and the Jets will consider other candidates.
The team notified some candidates Monday that it was moving in a different direction.
This was seen as an indication that the Jets were hiring Newmark, but the team had narrowed down its list of candidates. They did not inform all GM candidates that they were no longer running for office.

Besides Newmark, the Jets interviewed with the following GM candidates: former Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff, former Titans GM Jon Robinson, Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy, ESPN analyst Lewis Riddick, Eagles Assistant GM Alec Halaby, Rams senior personnel executive Ray Farmer, Buccaneers assistant GM Mike Gris Nenberg, Broncos assistant GM Darren Mousey, Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown, Lions special assistant owner and CEO Chris Spielman, Vikings senior vice president of player personnel Ryan Grigson, and Packers players. John Eric Sullivan, vice president of human resources, and Bills assistant GM Brian Gane.
They also interviewed Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi, who is off the board after taking over the Titans GM job.
