The Cowboys have no plans to interview Deion Sanders for their vacant head coaching position, even though team owner Jerry Jones is in talks with the Dallas great.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. No interviews were scheduled or “expected” with the former Cowboys defensive back on Sunday. Previous appearances on the network He said he would be “surprised, probably very surprised, if anything was actually scheduled.”
Sanders confirmed he spoke to Jones last week after reports surfaced about Jones' connection to the Cowboys job.
“It's really nice and interesting to hear from Jerry Jones,” Sanders told ESPN at the time. “I love Jerry and I believe in Jerry. When I get off the phone and process it and think about it, it's interesting. But I love Boulder and our team, our coaches, our student body. , and everything about community.”
Sanders served as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes for the past two seasons, helping lead them to a 9-4 record in 2024.
Sanders' statement expressed satisfaction with his current position, but did not completely dismiss the idea that he might be eyeing the Dallas job.
Former ESPN reporter Ed Werder reported last week that Sanders would “almost certainly” take the job if offered it.
The Cowboys have been looking for a new coach since parting ways with Mike McCarthy just before his contract expired.
Dallas already has a number of coaches interviewing, including former Jets head coach Robert Saleh and Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

According to Rapoport, the Cowboys' offensive coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury, may also receive an interview request.
“The Dallas Cowboys know how coveted their job is. They know what an opportunity it is,” Rapoport said. “I believe they can get a top candidate.”
