When asked who their favorite up-and-coming comedians have been in recent years, Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Burr, and Roy Wood Jr. all gave the same answer.
Mark Normand.
But Normand, 40, is not new to the scene. The veteran comedian spent years honing his talent for performing multiple sets a night at bars, clubs, and theaters throughout New York City.
And now, the efforts of the most dedicated manga artists are being rewarded.
In July 2023, Netflix released Normand's latest one-hour special, “Soup to Nuts,” and he will next embark on a national tour this winter, “Ya Don't,” with back-to-back shows at New York City's Beacon Theater on Fridays.・We are planning to embark on a “Sei Tour.” , Saturday, January 26th and January 27th.
Of course, he has already prepared new songs, ready and ready.
“We had a new hot time,” Normand told the New York Post in an exclusive interview. “We're cooking, baby.”
I don't slow down for the tour to see if I'm polished.
“I did six sets last night. I'm a real whore on stage,” he smiles. “When I was in Baltimore, we were doing the 2,500-seat Lyric Theater and we had a good set.”
“Then a friend of mine said, ‘I know you can do this bar show,’ and we did.”
For Normand, it's more than just getting up and telling jokes. He knows how much effort audiences put into going to see live comedy, and he wants to deliver a great experience.
“You've got to put on a show for people. They hired a babysitter and wore collared shirts. They're about to have sex. So bring it on, baby.”
“And I was able to get quite a bit of information about cultural appropriation, which really cooks up,” he continued. “For me, if you can make people laugh about a dangerous topic, that’s what comedy is all about.”
If you're wondering what else the tireless jokester is up to this winter, here's everything you need to know about Normand and his “Ya Don't Say Tour.”
The interview above has been lightly edited and condensed for clarity.

Netflix's “Soup to Nuts”
On July 25th, Normand released the joke-filled “Soup To Nuts” to Netflix.
Over the course of 53 minutes, the New Orleans native tackles familiar themes like drinking, relationships, and male strip clubs, but makes each one his own.
“I drink too much. I have to cut back,” he says in the opening line.
“Yes, it is said that 2.5 million people die from alcohol each year, which is sad, but think about how many people alcohol creates. If I hadn’t, I might not be here.”
And while Normand is a true original who throws punches at lightning speed, he's also quick to point out that he's “a big Chris Rock, Norm Macdonald, Seinfeld guy.” There is.
But his biggest influence goes back a little further.
“George Carlin has a special called “Back in Town,'' where he comes running off the street, and I did that in the special,” Normand explains. “It was definitely a bit of an homage.”

Mark Normand Comedy Special
Normand has been performing stand-up since 2006. In his 18 years of existence, he has produced his three specials and his half-hour show on Netflix. You can see them here:
“Still have it” (2014) Now streaming spotify
“Don’t be yourself.” (2017) Streaming on Paramount+
“Come out to lunch.” (2020) Now streaming YouTube
“The Stand Up” (2021) Now streaming Netflix
As Normand is quick to point out, an hour-long Netflix special doesn't happen overnight.
“I had to do an hour on Comedy Central, 30 minutes on Comedy Central, 30 minutes on Netflix. Then I had to do an hour on YouTube, and eventually they said, 'Okay. , “Okay, I'll give you an hour,''' he explained.
“It takes so many years and so much material before they trust you.”
Mark Normand special guest
At every show, Normand brings in a few funny friends to warm up the crowd.
“We're going to have some people participate, but it won't be that big,” he said. “I'll ask Seinfeld. I'm sure he'll find it deeply insulting and will probably stop talking to me after that.”
Although he can't say for sure who will join him, he said the comedians who will share the stage with him at the Beacon will be “prominent figures in the New York City comedy scene.”
He is accompanied by Sean Murphy, Mae Planato, Anthony DeVito, and Marcus Monroe on the road.
And yes, like the comics who cried out to him for making a name for himself, he too wanted to pay it forward.
“I like Ian Lara,” Normand said. “I think he's solid, but he's already qualified, so I really want to help a guy who hasn't done anything well. “I'd choose Anthony DeVito, very underrated. ”
You can stream DeVito's 2023 special “Brain Noise” here.

In addition to being on stage every day, Normand is also a seasoned podcaster.
he is currently hosting “Tuesday with stories” with co-host Joe List “We might be drunk.” With fellow comic Sam Morrill.
Mark Normand's History of New York
Among New York comedians, Normand is known as a prolific workhorse who frequently appears in small shows to shore up his act.
However, there is a way to cure his madness.
“New York audiences are the most impatient, so a lot of the fat gets cut from the performance,” he says. “Now, when I go to Cleveland, they're like, 'Hey, this guy has a fast break.' Otherwise, the New York crowd would spit me out.”
While honing his punchline, Normand dreamed of performing at the legendary Beacon Theatre.
“It's really crazy to play at Beacon because I used to go to Stand Up New York, which is a small club about three blocks uptown in Beacon.” he explained. “To get there, I walked past the Beacon every night. I saw Seinfeld or Jim Gaffigan or Bill Burr in the marquee and thought, 'What would that be like?' .”
These shows aren't his first rodeos there, though.
“I opened for Seinfeld a few years ago. It's an amazing room. The fact that I can do it myself, the whole thing is bananas.”
Mark Normand's Comedy Story
Over the years, Normand has amassed a long string of performances alongside many of the industry's biggest headliners.
“They all gave me different pieces of advice, all of which were invaluable,” he said. “Schumer taught me a lot about business, and Seinfeld taught me a lot about performing in theater. You have to get bigger and everything As for Louis CK, we found out he doesn't like farting.”
“I ended up farting in the street with him. I thought he would find it funny, and he got annoyed.”
This summer, he participated in Bert Kreischer's touring event, Fully Loaded Comedy Festival.
“I rode the bus everywhere for Bert Kreischer's summer tour, and I slept on the bus with Shane Gillis, Big Jay Oakerson, Joey Diaz, and Kreischer. It was like sleep apnea. It was like a syndrome tournament,” Normand quipped.
“On tour, we did an arena in Oklahoma City, and I started by saying, “I’m going to do an arena in Oklahoma City.
'Hey, good to have you back.Last time I was here it didn't go that well but this wasn't the worst bomb you guys saw' And he was booed by 20,000 people all at once. ”
Last year, Normand worked overseas in Europe and Australia. Most audiences are the same, he said, but some are quite unusual.
“In Amsterdam, we clap more than we laugh,” he says. “You think you're bombing, and then they stand up and clap like crazy, and you think, 'Maybe they don't hate me.'” That's how they do it here. ”
Mark Normand's connection to Kevin Hart
You may have noticed that he was introduced as Kevin Hart at the beginning of Normand's special “Soup to Nuts.”
It wasn't a mistake. For years, Normand has ended his sets with “Thank you!” I'm Kevin Hart! ”
“I always expected him to notice, but he never noticed,” Normand said.
“Anyway, the backstory is that I was saying bombshells to the point where I was embarrassed to say my name. I was like, 'Fuck you, I'm not going to tell you who I am.' “Yes,” he laughed.
“In the end, it kind of stuck. I did it on 'The Tonight Show,' and they seemed to like my special.”
