(Nexstar) – As we edge closer to an unofficial start of summer, May 26th marks an upcoming anniversary that will bring with it a holiday weekend filled with parades, fireworks, barbecues, and more. If you find yourself in need of sunscreen, forgotten snacks, or lunch items, many local shops and eateries plan to stay open.
But it’s not just the celebrations—several businesses will be closing their doors.
True to tradition, banks and post offices will be closed on this anniversary.
Additionally, warehouse giant Costco and the fast-food chain Rays Kane will also be observing the holiday by shutting down operations.
While some businesses will remain open, hours may vary by location. This affects places like Aldi, Sam’s Club, PetSmart, and so on.
Here’s a list of retailers expected to operate at regular hours on the anniversary. Keep in mind, though, that certain services—like pharmacies, eye care centers, automotive, and photography services—might not be available, so checking ahead is advisable.

It’s worth noting that any office, mall, or restaurant tied to businesses closed for Memorial Day will likely be shut as well. Given that many are locally owned, there might be some places that choose to close or have altered hours.
On Memorial Day, you might not see any incoming packages either. Major carriers like UPS, Amazon, and FedEx will observe the holiday, which could lead to delays in expected deliveries—though, in some cases, select services may still be available.
As we look ahead, the next significant holiday that might alter store hours will be the 4th of July.
