‘White dudes for Harris’ to hold call after 160,000 White women join ‘Karens for Kamala’ Zoom

The virtual conference, dubbed “White Guys Supporting Harris,” is set to hold a conference call on Monday to build excitement for Vice President Kamala Harris’ bid for the election.

“More than 10,000 white men from across the country are expected to join the movement this week to welcome Vice President Harris to the presidential race and pledge to support her election,” organizers wrote in a sign-up form.

The call came after 164,000 white women tuned in to a Zoom call on Thursday, breaking the world’s record, all to show their support for Vice President Harris’ presidential campaign.

Huge Remote meetings Billed as “White Women: Answering the Call,” the show featured a host of celebrity guests, including U.S. women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe, musician Pink and actress Connie Britton, some of whom spoke specifically to the white female crowd in an attempt to solidify support for the woman who has secured the Democratic presidential nomination.

Britton, who also spoke at the virtual event, jokingly called the meeting “Karen for Kamala.”

Thursday’s online rally was inspired by a Zoom call for Black women last Sunday organized by activist group Win With Black Women just hours after President Joe Biden announced his decision to drop out of his reelection campaign in favor of Harris.

According to The Guardian, the event was attended by around 44,000 people and raised more than $1.5 million for Harris’ campaign.

More than 50,000 black men also rallied in support of Harris on Monday.

Thursday’s record-breaking rally was organized by Shannon Watts, founder of the gun control group Moms Demand Action. Two days before the rally, Watts posted on X, “It’s time to organize a white women’s conference call like black women and men are doing to support VP Kamala Harris. Who’s going to join?”

Feminist outlet The 19th By Friday afternoon, it reported that about $7 million more had been raised.

“Folks, we have a job to do,” Britton declared in a speech to the virtual audience, adding that a future president of the United States, Harris, would not only “listen” but also “lead with empathy, integrity and the power of truth.”

And she spoke glowingly about the moment Biden stepped down and the vice president assumed the presidential nomination: “It was a huge event. A cosmic event even. And since then, have you seen it? Have you seen Kamala shining with the brilliance and radiance of true power and leadership? What does that feel like? It’s like self-love.”

Watts, who also spoke on the call, denounced white women’s historical voting patterns, saying, “The bad news is that the vast majority of white women are voting Republican because many of us subconsciously believe that it’s in our interest to use our privilege and our white supremacy and patriarchal support systems to benefit us.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders says Trump’s claim that Kamala Harris is more liberal than the Vermont senator is a “lie.”

She urged women to unconventionally rally behind Harris: “White women, we have 100 days to save the world!” she said.

Author and liberal activist Glennon Doyle also addressed the 160,000 people who attended online, saying they needed to “step into the gap between democracy and fascism”, adding that winning the election would allow them to say “we are finally one of those women who have come together and saved the world”.

Ahead of Monday’s rally, young white supporters of Harris vowed not to be intimidated by the “MAGA mob.”

“We will not stand by and watch while the MAGA pack intimidates other white men into voting for their hateful and divisive ideology, because we understand that under MAGA, everyone loses. As white men, we know we need to play a strong, positive role in America’s shared future, and that starts with all of us cutting through the MAGA bullshit and reminding those who have appropriated our symbols what America really means. We are happy to join you in this fight.”

Ross Morales Lockett, one of the organizers of White Dudes for Harris, wrote to X, “We are inspired by the incredible organizing by Black women, men, and others! We are doing this because our community has not organized itself for far too long, to everyone’s detriment.”

Harris’ entry into the race has energized the Democratic Party after weeks of uncertainty following Biden’s poor performance in a debate with former President Trump and calls from liberals for him to withdraw.
