Clooney Critiques Trump, White House Responds Humorously

Actor George Clooney voiced his criticism of President Donald Trump’s threats against Iran, suggesting they could amount to war crimes. The White House responded with a lighthearted retort on social media.

During an event with around 3,000 high school students in Italy, Clooney expressed his disapproval. He stated, “Some people think Trump is alright, but if someone says they want to end civilization, that’s definitely a war crime,” emphasizing that even if you back conservative policies, there’s a decency line that shouldn’t be crossed.

Trump’s social media post came the same day Iraq set a deadline to cease blocking shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. He ominously remarked, “An entire civilization will die tonight and will never rise again. I don’t want that to happen, but it likely will.” Following this, he added, “After 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, it’s finally over. God bless the great people of Iran!”

Amidst many calls for Trump’s removal via the 25th Amendment due to his alarming statement, he announced later that night a ceasefire had been reached with Iran, allowing a two-week pause in hostilities.

In response, Stephen Chan, the presidential adviser and White House communications director, tweeted back at Clooney, saying, “The only person who committed war crimes is George Clooney, with his bad movies and acting.”

Following the announcement of the ceasefire, oil prices dropped, but tensions remained high as Iran accused the U.S. and Israel of violating the agreement just a day later.

Clooney also expressed concerns about the potential withdrawal of the U.S. from NATO. “I’m really worried about NATO,” he mentioned. “It’s been essential for the safety of Europe and other regions. Dismantling such an organization feels precarious. Despite various mistakes, the U.S. has achieved many historic feats with NATO.”
