The White House on Friday pursued House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) for “blatantly lying” about Hunter Biden's backer's testimony.
“Once again, James Comer has blatantly lied about his private testimony in the Republican Party's baseless, meandering and failed so-called 'impeachment inquiry' into the president,” White House Press Secretary Ian Sams said in a statement. It seems like it's on,” he said. I have written in a post on Platform X, formerly known as Twitter. “This happened over and over and over again.”
Sams' post referenced attorney Kevin Morris, a friend of President Biden's son, who claimed House Republicans did not accurately represent his testimony following Thursday's closed session. .
“Your staff and other committee staff have responded that Mr. Morris will be treated fairly,” Morris' attorney Brian Sullivan said in a letter to Comer. “And you engaged in a routine practice of treating Mr. Morris fairly and withholding partial and inaccurate witness statements.”
The letter also includes complaints from Democrats that Republicans misrepresented witness testimony during the impeachment inquiry examining the Biden family's business dealings and ties to the president.
Comer welcomed Thursday's news that Hunter Biden is scheduled to appear in a closed deposition before Comer's committee and the House Judiciary Committee later this month.
“At the end of the day, I think this is a huge victory for the House Oversight Committee,” Comer said on Fox News Thursday. “This is exactly what we wanted.”
Biden agreed to a deposition in late February after lawmakers threatened him with contempt of Congress after he avoided a deposition in early December. Thing.
“Hunter Biden is scheduled to appear before our committee for a deposition on February 28, 2024. His deposition follows several interviews with Biden’s family and associates. “We look forward to Hunter Biden's testimony,” Comer and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said in a statement.
