Trump Hosts White House Easter Egg Roll with Military Praise
On April 6, 2026, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania greeted children alongside the Easter Bunny during the White House Easter Egg Roll, which carried a patriotic theme celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary.
In his opening remarks, the president commended the military for their successful rescue of two F-15E pilots whose jet went down in Iran over the weekend. One pilot was rescued on Saturday, while the other was found on Easter Sunday. He announced a press conference later in the day to provide further details.
“We have the greatest military, the strongest military anywhere in the world. I built it in my first term,” Trump noted, expressing pride in the military’s capabilities.
Humorously, Trump shared that he initially anticipated discussing agricultural products during the event but was reminded to stick to the topic of eggs. He recalled a previous year when, due to soaring egg prices, he insisted on using real eggs instead of plastics for the Easter festivities.
“I said, ‘We’re not using plastic. We’re going to solve it,’” he explained. “And then the prices dropped significantly!”
According to the White House press secretary, egg prices have significantly decreased—around 80% compared to last Easter—after the administration tackled an egg shortage stemming from bird flu, even importing eggs from abroad.
First Lady Melania, referred to by Trump as a “movie star,” welcomed the estimated 40,000 guests. She extended her well wishes, saying, “Happy Easter Monday. I hope you enjoy this wonderful day. This year we are celebrating a special Easter Egg Roll.”
“Happy Easter and God bless America,” Trump concluded, addressing the crowd while emphasizing the nation’s greatness.
The celebration included a whistle game for children, featuring 250 eggs dyed in American colors to mark the occasion. At one point, Trump even joked about the potential value of his autograph, appealing to the kids around him.
“You can sell it tonight on eBay for $25,000,” he told one child, who said he thought Trump was the best president.
Historically, the White House Easter Egg Roll tradition began in 1878 when a group of children played on the lawn. It faced interruptions during major wars but was revived in the 1950s and has been a staple ever since.
Traditionally organized by the first lady, this year’s commemorative eggs include various designs, with a special golden egg featuring the presidential seal available for $34.95.
“The White House Easter Egg Roll has been an American tradition for over 145 years,” remarked Stewart McLaughlin, president of the White House Historical Society.
On this Easter weekend, the White House also highlighted President Trump’s commitment to restoring religious freedom for Christians in America.
“As Christians around the world rejoice in the Resurrection, President Trump stands as a passionate champion of the Christian faith,” the White House emphasized.
