A new White House memo says Republican attacks on President Biden’s memory show they are “afraid.”
“President Biden also led Democrats to the best midterm elections for a new incumbent in more than 60 years and a string of other victories in 2023,” White House press secretary Andrew Bates said in a memo Saturday. ” he said. “These are historic accomplishments that President Biden was uniquely able to achieve, and President Biden is uniquely able to build upon.”
“And this undeniable record explains why it’s no wonder Republican officials continue their desperate and inadvertently self-defeating age attacks even after years of failure. They are afraid of Biden,” the memo continued.
The memo was filed following the release of the special counsel’s report on the president’s handling of classified documents. Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report released Thursday concluded that no charges should be brought against the president, but noted that Biden has problems with memory and recall.
“We also think it is likely that Mr. Biden will appear before the jury at trial as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory, just as he was when we interviewed him.” Mr. Hoa wrote.
“Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone many jurors would want to have a reasonable doubt about.” It would be difficult to convince a jury that he should be convicted of a serious felony that requires a state of mind.”
Top Republican leaders responded to the report’s release, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), his House colleagues Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Majority Leader Tom Scalise (R-LA). They pursued the president, including Mr. Emmer (R-Minnesota). Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (RN.Y.) said in a joint statement that Biden is “unfit” to be president.
“One of the most disturbing parts of this report is the special counsel’s justification for not recommending charges: that the president’s memory has very ‘significant limitations.’ “The president was unable to convince a jury that he was in a ‘willful state of mind’ to commit the crime,” a Republican official said.
