White House official says Zelenskyy apologized to Trump, calls it ‘progress’ toward a deal

A Trump envoy said Ukrainian President Volodimia Zelenkie apologized in a letter to President Donald Trump, calling it “progress” towards mineral trade.

A special envoy to Steve Witkov in the Middle East told Fox News that Zelensky reached out to compensate after the mineral trade where explosive differences between him, the president and vice president were proposed.

“They just need to be placed on the table and everyone needs to be transparent about what their expectations are.”

“Zelensky sent a letter to the president. He apologised for the entire incident that took place in the oval office,” Witkov said.

“I think that was an important step, and I think there was a lot of discussions related to this debate between our team and Ukrainians and Europeans,” he added. “And I would like to describe it as progress. And I hope there's a deal.”

Zelenskyy was accused by Vice President JD Vance of trying to sue the details of the deal and past events publicly, but the Ukrainian leader argued that Russian President Vladimir Putin had already violated various agreements.

“I think it would be rude to have you come to your oval office and try to sue this in front of the American media, with respect,” Vance told him during the meeting. “Right now, you're forced to draft military forces to the forefront because of talent issues. We need to thank the President for trying to put an end to this conflict.”

Previous supporters of Zelensky, such as Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, have turned on the president and called for his expulsion to improve relations with the United States.

The rare earth mineral trade was intended to help the United States recover some of the billions spent on supporting Ukraine and ensure close economic ties between the two countries. Trump said the deal is likely to be signed between the two countries.

“These are not complicated,” Witkov continued. “They just need to be on the table, everyone needs to be transparent about what their expectations are, and we can start a discussion about how we compromise.”
