Gunfire Near the White House Triggers Lockdown

On Saturday afternoon, a gunman brandishing a pistol opened fire near the White House, instigating a lockdown of the area, according to reports.

By around 6 p.m. local time, the gunman had fired three shots towards the Executive Mansion, prompting a response from Secret Service agents.

The incident took place around 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. A civilian was reportedly shot during the event, but details about their condition remain unclear.

Witnesses indicated hearing as many as 30 shots fired in the vicinity of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

It’s been noted that the suspect had not entered the grounds of the White House.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated that FBI agents were present to assist the Secret Service in dealing with the situation.

Reports from the scene indicated that a Secret Service agent advised reporters to “stand down” before they were guided to the press conference area in the West Wing.

Secret Service personnel were seen on-site with their weapons drawn, emphasizing the seriousness of the response.

Earlier in the day, President Donald Trump had been in the Oval Office discussing the nearing completion of a deal to resolve the conflict with Iran.
