Elon Musk recently shed light on tensions between himself and members of the Trump administration, particularly after an encounter with Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent, who reportedly had a confrontation at the White House earlier this year.
According to reports, Musk and Bescent had expressed a desire to enter the Oval Office in April regarding the IRS commissioner role. After Trump sided with Bescent’s recommendation, insults were exchanged between the two men as they departed, culminating in Musk making a physical move towards Bescent.
However, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt downplayed the incident when speaking to Fox News, suggesting it was overly dramatized.
Leavitt mentioned, “I certainly don’t call it a boxing fight. It was definitely a disagreement.” She clarified that she heard of the incident from others and may not have the full picture. “Then the President moved on to focus on the whole administration passing through this invoice.”
This situation seems to have created some friction within the Republican Party, with figures like Ron Johnson and Rand Paul expressing reluctance to support the bill Musk has criticized as excessive and filled with negative agreements. Musk took to social media last week to denounce this involvement, stating it was “filled with pork” and publicly shaming those in favor.
Despite the disagreements, Leavitt insisted that Trump’s cabinet members can still collaborate effectively, showcasing unity for the American people. She recounted how Musk was sent back to his company after the aforementioned encounter while others, including Secretary Lutnick and Stephen Miller, were present.
Additionally, a recent incident involving ABC News correspondent Terry Moran drew attention after he expressed strong sentiments against the administration on social media. Leavitt noted that such rhetoric, while coming from someone in journalism, was wholly unacceptable, prompting ABC to suspend Moran pending review.
