White House shakes up communications, promotes Kirby to expanded role

The White House’s top national security official, Press Secretary John Kirby, has been promoted and his role expanded to include coordinating communications across multiple agencies.

According to Reuters, U.S. officials said Kirby’s new title will be White House national security adviser, and he will be promoted from deputy aide to aide to the president.

In his new role, Mr. Kirby will lead the National Security Council Press Office team led by Chief Press Secretary Adrian Watson.

White House officials did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s inquiries regarding this matter.

The retired US Navy admiral was hired as the National Security Council’s Strategic Communications Coordinator in 2022 after being hired from the Pentagon, and since January 2021 has served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs.

Kirby served in uniform for more than 28 years before retiring as a rear admiral in 2015.
