Cracker Barrel Appoints Old Logo After Backlash
The White House expressed support for President Trump’s backing of Cracker Barrel’s decision to bring back its classic logo.
The initial launch of a new logo received significant criticism online. This week, President Trump joined the voices of dissent, encouraging the 55-year-old restaurant chain to revert to its well-known emblem. He stated, “The Cracker Barrel needs to go back to the old logo and accept mistakes based on customer response (the ultimate poll) and take control of the company more than ever,” in a post on social media.
He pointed out that the company had lost out on about $1 billion in potential free advertising and labeled this as both a challenge and an opportunity.
Trump also mentioned that the company could make headlines and “make Cracker Barrel a winner again.” He declared, “Remember, for a moment, I have made the United States the ‘hottest’ country anywhere in the world,” and noted the nation’s previous struggles.
Later Tuesday, when Cracker Barrel announced it would reinstate its old logo, the White House shared screenshots of Trump’s posts, implying that his remarks had influenced the decision.
Caroline Levitt, the White House Press Secretary, commented on social media about the situation, relaying that the announcement had come just eight hours after Trump’s comments.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budowich also shared a screenshot of Trump’s original statement, reinforcing that the company had taken notice of Trump’s remarks.
Budowich expressed gratitude during a call with Cracker Barrel that evening, indicating that the company appreciated Trump’s concerns regarding the iconic logo. “They wanted the President to know that he heard him along with his clientele (the ultimate poll). So smart! Congratulations to Cracker Barrel and the US!” he wrote.
When asked for a response, Cracker Barrel acknowledged their customers’ feedback and announced their decision to revert to the old design. The previous logo had prompted laughter from long-time supporters and led to a significant drop in the company’s stock price.
In their statement, the restaurant emphasized their commitment to valuing their guests, saying, “We said we’ll listen, and we have. Our new logo will go away and our ‘old timer’ will remain.” They reiterated their dedication to providing quality food and hospitality, highlighting the hard work of their 70,000 employees.
Following the announcement, Trump congratulated the chain, saying, “Congratulations. The Cracker Barrel has put the logo back to what it is. All the fans are very grateful. Good for the future.” He encouraged them to continue making their customers happy.
