The White House on Tuesday told The Daily Caller after conservative media outlets retracted posts suggesting the Biden administration had imposed a new ban on the use of religious symbols on Easter eggs during annual holiday celebrations. He expressed his gratitude on the paper.
“It’s important to admit when we make a mistake and take responsibility for it. Therefore, we would like to thank The Daily Caller for having the integrity to retract its article on the false claims spread this week about the Easter Egg Roll. We want to evaluate it,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters.
“I hope others learn from their good example. So leave it there,” she added.
Last week, the Daily Caller published an article reporting that President Biden “banned children from submitting religious-themed Easter eggs” to an Easter art contest. Conservatives, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), had criticized the White House over reports that religious symbols were banned.
But White House officials noted that the ban on painting religious symbols on eggs as part of art contests has been in place for decades, including during the Trump administration.
“The inclusion of additional context significantly diminished the newsworthiness of the article, leading Kohler’s senior leadership to make the decision to retract it,” Kohler wrote. in that withdrawal.
Conservatives also criticized Biden for declaring Transgender Day of Visibility on the same day as Easter.
Transgender Visibility Day has always been March 31st since it was first recognized 15 years ago. Easter can sometimes fall on a Sunday from late March to mid-April, but this year it happened to fall on the same day.
