The show’s smug co-host Mika Brzezinski, along with writers Tom Schaller and Paul Waldman, opened the segment by discussing how Trump “became a billionaire at age 8 and why he never had to become president. ”, he said, making him wonder why he received so much support from rural America. She claimed he had bone spurs in his little feet. ”
The far-left Brzezinski asked with a grin, “Why are rural white voters a threat to democracy at this point? As we pointed out, if you look at the histories of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, You would think the opposite would be true.”
Schaller responded that he and Waldman “describe four interrelated threats that rural white voters pose to the country” in their new book, then dropped the first bombshell.
“They are the most racist, xenophobic, anti-immigrant, anti-gay geographic demographic group in this country,” he began. “Secondly, they are the most conspiracist group: QAnon supporters and subscribers, election denialism, coronavirus denialism,” scientific skepticism, Obama birtherism. ”
Schaller added that white rural Americans harbor “anti-democratic sentiments.”
“They don’t believe in an independent press or free speech. They are most likely to argue that the president should be unilaterally supported without any checks from Congress, the courts, or the bureaucracy. “They are the strongest white supremacists and white Christian supremacists.” And fourth, they are most likely to condone or justify violence as an alternative to peaceful public discussion. ”
Brzezinski asked, in a completely elitist tone, why the subject matter of their book was “vulnerable.”
Waldman responded that it has to do with a “challenged education system,” “poor infrastructure,” and a “lack of economic opportunity,” particularly the significant loss of manufacturing jobs.
“So they left room for someone like Donald Trump to come in and tell them the truth, which is that there is a system in place that is not good for them,” Waldman added.
“They’re mad,” Brzezinski declares off-camera.
