White Sox head into 2025 with historically putrid over/under total

Oddsmakers don't expect things to get much better for the White Sox in 2025.

A year after breaking the record for the highest loss in a single season, the White Sox are making history under / of just 53.5 wins heading into this season.

According to sports odds history, that number is the lowest preseason total for any team since at least 1990.

Chicago's over/under has five wins less than the Rockies, who have the second-lowest preseason total with 58.5 wins.

The pair are the eighth and ninth teams of the past 35 years, earning preseason under 60, and are participating in 2024 A's, 2023 A and Nationals, 2021 Pirates, 2019 Orioles, 2013 Astros and 1993 Marlins.

Still, hitting an over at 53.5 would be a major improvement over the Southsider.

The White Sox went 41-121 in 2024, breaking the 120 modern ERA loss record set by the Mets in 1962, their first season in Major League Baseball.

And the White Sox roster didn't make this offseason that good.

They added veterans Martin Perez, Josh Rojas, Mike Tauchuman and Austin Slater in a one-year deal, but their additions are top-ranked by subtraction.

In December, the White Sox traded Ace Garrett Cloche for the Red Sox to gain potential customers.

The White Sox could continue to disband some of their roster as star outfielder Lewis Robert will be available for trade this summer.

The biggest upgrade to the White Sox may be in the dugout.

The franchise hired a former big leaguer and took over as manager, replacing Grady Sizemore, who was interim manager since the team fired Pedro Griffor last August.
