Wednesday's game against the Texas Rangers featured a couple of wild plays that went against the White Sox, but no game may better represent the 2024 Chicago White Sox.
Chicago suffered its 103rd loss of the season, a 4-3 defeat to the Rangers, but it was the intensity that really stood out along the way.
First, infielder Lenin Sosa was hit in the face by a ball before the top of the eighth, then Andrew Vaughn missed what would have been a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth.
Sosa was standing on second base but was found not to be paying attention when catcher Chuckie Robinson threw a ball to end his warm-up that appeared to hit Sosa on the nose.
The White Sox center fielder appeared to be in immediate pain and was evaluated by the team's training staff.
Sosa remained in the game but appeared to have a red nose as he prepared to start the frame.
An inning later, the game turned around for the White Sox as left fielder Travis Jankowski jumped at the wall to catch the ball and deny the win.
Vaughn hit a ball deep into left field that seemed destined for the bullpen at Guaranteed Rate Field, but Jankowski made the game-saving catch for the second out of the bottom of the ninth.
Jankowski stuck his glove over the wall to grab the ball and pull it back down the field to preserve the Rangers' lead.

The 2024 season has been a historically bad one for the White Sox, putting them on the brink of potentially having the worst season in MLB history.
Chicago suffered its 100th loss earlier this week, bringing their total to 124, putting them on track to pass the 1962 Mets for the most losses in a single season in MLB history.
