Whitmer says RFK Jr. gives her 'some concern,' needs to be 'taken seriously'

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (Democrat) said she has “some concerns” about independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other third-party candidates.

Whitmer was pressed on CNN’s “State of the Union” about a recent poll showing Kennedy with 9 percent support in Michigan. She said Sunday that the election will be “close,” but stressed that President Biden has plenty to brag about to voters in the state.

She said Biden is “the first president in a long time with a vision for infrastructure and true manufacturing that’s coming to fruition with good-paying jobs every day.”

“Certainly Kennedy, or any third party candidate, is a concern to me and should be taken seriously. That’s why we’re campaigning in all 83 counties and working hard to get the votes of the people, and the many good traditional Republicans who are uncomfortable with a convicted felon at the top of the ballot, who know that Kennedy has a lot of outlandish ideas about science and the future and who don’t even have the support of his own family,” said Governor Whitmer.

“That being said, we can’t speculate on anything. We have to win every single vote and that’s what we’re doing,” she added.

Kennedy qualified for Michigan’s ballot in April. According to The Hill/Decision Desk Michigan polling average, Kennedy is leading the state with about 7.7% support, roughly tied with Biden and former President Trump.
