Who Will Die in Stranger Things Finale?

It seems there’s hardly a fan of Stranger Things on Netflix who wouldn’t want to know the fate of their favorite characters in the final episode. Over the years, viewers have speculated about various characters—Steve Harrington (Joe Keery), for instance, had many wondering if he’d survive, and then there’s Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and the uncertainty around Hopper (David Harbour).

**Spoilers Ahead: Stranger Things Season 5 Episode 8 “The Rightside Up” is now streaming on Netflix**

The epic finale of Stranger Things takes us back to the Upside Down for one last adventure, but not everyone makes it out intact. In this finale, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) chooses to sacrifice herself along with her sister Cali (Linnea Bertelsen) to stop the government from exploiting them and other kids again. But, can the Duffer Brothers really give us such a grim ending? I mean, would Jim Hopper allow Eleven to make that kind of choice?

On another note, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) is stepping up, using his new ability to connect with the hive mind to fight against Vecna. Is this, maybe, a narrative about Will’s sacrifice? Is his death a possibility?

And what about little Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher), Derek the Delightful Turnbow (Jake Connelly), and the other children taken by Vecna? Will they find a way to survive?

So, who’s going to live and who’s facing the end in the Stranger Things finale? Here’s a rundown on who makes it out alive and who might be left forever trapped in the dark shadows of the Upside Down.

Who Will Die in Stranger Things?

The first significant character to die in Stranger Things is actually Elle’s sister, Cali. She meets her end at the hands of the villainous soldier Akers (Alex Blue) midway through the episode.

Eleven, Cali, Hopper, and Murray find themselves in another version of Hawkins Laboratory but face some hurdles. Vecna manipulates Cali’s powers, tricking Hopper into disconnecting Eleven from the sensory deprivation tank, which cuts her link to Vecna’s mind. Shortly after, Akers and his crew attack the Institute with a device designed to immobilize Eleven and Cali. When Hopper returns to help Cali, they’re caught. As Akers aims to shoot Cali, Murray sets off explosives that disable a helicopter, but the blast causes Akers to shoot Cali, leading to her injuries and eventual death.

As for Steve, it looked like he might meet his end around 20 minutes in when he falls from the SQWK tower. Fortunately, Jonathan saves him just in time.

As we look ahead in the series, it’s still uncertain who will make it—will characters live or die as the plot unfolds?
