Several well-known online services faced disruptions on Monday due to an outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS).
AWS, which is a major player in cloud infrastructure, initially reported problems in its “US-East-1” region located in Northern Virginia around 3 a.m. EDT.
The company noted they encountered issues with their DynamoDB database and announced a fix was in progress around 6:30 a.m. ET, stating that they had “fully mitigated” the problems and most services were back online.
Later, a fresh wave of connectivity issues struck late Monday morning. AWS attributed these problems to complications with Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), which provides users with virtual computing power.
The fix began rolling out early Monday afternoon, and by around 4 p.m. EDT, improvements were reported across services.
Various services reported their struggles during the outages:
coinbase
Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase acknowledged in a post on X at about 3:45 a.m. ET that many users were unable to access its platform due to the AWS outage, but reassured that “all funds are safe.”
Though they showed some signs of recovery, by late Monday morning, Coinbase mentioned that the outage was “creating challenges to scale” and highlighted issues with key features, including support channels, transactions, and money transfers.
peloton
Pleasantly, Peloton noted early on that it was “seeing recovery from the AWS outage and actively monitoring” all services. However, they later indicated that “errors have spiked again” on some of their platforms.

fortnite
Fortnite informed its users via X just before 4 a.m. EDT that “logins are also being affected” due to the outage. By around 8:30 a.m. EDT, they proclaimed that the service provider issues were resolved, making the game accessible again.
However, later they noted that “players in the Asia server region are experiencing login and matchmaking errors” and they were working on a fix.
