Arrest Made in Double Homicide of Ohio Dentist and His Wife
Michael David McKee was arrested on Saturday in Chicago, under suspicion of fatally shooting his ex-wife and her husband in Columbus, Ohio, in late December.
On December 30, when Spencer Tepe failed to arrive at work, authorities conducted a welfare check at his home in Wineland Park. There, they discovered the 37-year-old dentist and his 39-year-old wife, Monique Tepe, both dead from gunshot injuries.
McKee, 39, who is a vascular surgeon, was detained just before noon at the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois and faces two murder charges in Ohio.
Spencer and Monique Tepe were married in 2015 and had seemed amicable until Monique filed for divorce in 2017, according to reports. After their divorce was finalized, McKee was residing in Virginia.
A family member shared that the couple had recently celebrated their fifth anniversary before the tragic incident.
Police were able to track McKee’s vehicle, which appeared in neighborhood surveillance footage around the time of the shooting. Court documents reveal that his car was seen arriving shortly before the incident and leaving shortly after.
A warrant for McKee’s arrest was issued the same day he was taken into custody.
He is expected to be extradited to Franklin County, Ohio, with a hearing scheduled for January 12. Currently, police have not disclosed any motive for the shooting.
Surveillance footage allegedly shows McKee walking near the Tepe residence during the early hours of December 30, a critical time frame for the investigation.
Although McKee and Monique Tepe did not have children together, the couple did have two young kids. Thankfully, those children were found unharmed in the home when the police arrived.
Records indicate that McKee holds medical licenses in both Illinois and California and is a graduate of The Ohio State University School of Medicine. He also has family connections in Zanesville, Ohio, which adds another layer of complexity to this unfolding situation.
