Introducing Sasha Bordeaux in Peace Maker Season 2
James Gunn seems determined to present some lesser-known comic book characters, and in the second season of Peace Maker, we get to meet Sasha Bordeaux.
She debuts in the eagerly awaited first episode of a season that’s been a long time coming—three and a half years since the debut season of this HBO Max action comedy. Sasha is part of a large team alongside General Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) and Agent Langston Fleury (Tim Meadows).
Bordeaux makes an immediate impression in her first scene, referencing an early incident in Metropolis known as the “Luser Incident,” mentioned by Flag, as well as Lex Luthor (Nicholas Holt) and his connection to the events of Superman that occur just a month before Peace Maker Season 2.
It seems clear that Bordeaux will play a central role this season as she aims to confront Peacemaker. But, you might wonder—who is the actress behind this intriguing character? And how does her portrayal align with the comic book version of Sasha Bordeaux? Let’s dive into what you need to know.
Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux in Peace Maker Season 2
Agent Sasha Bordeaux is portrayed by Sol Rodriguez, a singer, actress, and model from Argentina. Rodriguez first appeared on screen in a Nickelodeon Latin America series, Grati, in 2011, where she played the role of Mercedes “Mecha” Estevez for over 200 episodes. Interestingly, she shares this DC Universe venture with María Gabriela de Faría, the Venezuelan actress who plays a role in Superman.
After her stint on Grati, Rodriguez transitioned to various recurring roles in US telenovelas like Demente Criminal, Tierra de Reyes, and Marido en Alquiler. She later crossed over into English-language programming, taking on the role of Daniela Mercado in Lifetime’s An Injustice Maid and appearing in shows like NCIS and Party of Five, before landing a recurring role as Teresa in Star Trek: Picard.
Before her casting in Peace Maker, she also appeared in the Netflix Christmas movie Vineyard Holiday and worked on a project titled “A Dream Realization!”, which was announced shortly after news of her joining the HBO Max series.
Rodriguez’s character, Sasha, made her debut in the show’s first episode, titled “The Ties that Grind.” She proudly shared behind-the-scenes moments on social media, expressing her excitement about joining the franchise and taking on a character she has always wanted to play.
Understanding Sasha Bordeaux in DC Comics
Sasha Bordeaux first appeared in DC Comics in Detective Comics #751. She was originally a Secret Service agent for Waynecorp tasked with protecting Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. As luck would have it, her skills lead her to uncover Wayne’s nighttime escapades, which results in her getting training from him as they patrol together.
Bordeaux evolves into a confidant for both Bruce Wayne and Batman; her role is complex, balancing both their personal and superhero lives, all while carrying the potential for romantic tension. Throughout the series, her journey includes betrayal, imprisonment, and a loyalty that withstands even dire circumstances, like needing an intervention for serious injuries sustained while in jail.
Interestingly, Sasha’s character is also tied to the Blue Beetle, portrayed in the DC Universe by Sean Gunn, James Gunn’s brother. This character undergoes a transformation tied to advanced bionic technology stemming from a human infected with a virus.
What Does Sasha Bordeaux Mean for Peace Maker Season 2?
It might seem odd to introduce Sasha into the Peace Maker world, especially since it hints at ties to the Batman universe. Yet, Gunn has addressed queries about any possible connections or relationships that Sasha might develop with Batman as the new DC Universe unfolds.
“We’re still figuring out the direction for Batman, but we’re aware of the foundational elements at play,” he hinted.
Will there be any romantic developments? Who knows!
The first two episodes of Peace Maker Season 2 are now streaming on HBO Max, with new episodes releasing every Thursday at 6 PM until October 9th.
