President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race in favor of Vice President Kamala Harris has sparked rumors that he may choose Harris as his running mate if he wins the nomination.
Harris has raised roughly $50 million in donations since the Biden administration’s announcement on Sunday, according to Lauren Hitt, a spokeswoman for the Harris campaign. The Hill report.
Harris responded to Biden’s recent endorsement: statement“I am honored to have the president’s endorsement and intend to seek and win this nomination,” he said.
“I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party, and unite the country, to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda,” she continued. “We have 107 days until Election Day, and we will fight together, and we will win together.”
The Democratic Party has already begun nominating Harris as its running mate, with candidates so far including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, all Democrats from swing states.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro
Shapiro, who is considered a leading candidate for vice presidential nomination, was one of the Democratic lawmakers to support Harris in the next presidential election after Biden announced he was dropping out of the race.
