Heisman Trophy Finalists Announced

On Monday night, the four finalists for the Heisman Trophy were revealed.

Quarterbacks Fernando Mendoza from the Indiana Hoosiers, Diego Pavia from the Vanderbilt Commodores, along with running back Jeremiah Love from Notre Dame, and Ohio State’s quarterback Julian Sane are all heading to New York, each hoping to claim the prestigious award.

Two of these players will also be in action during the national tournament.

Mendoza led Indiana to an undefeated season, notably defeating Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship this past Saturday. His performance helped secure his team the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff.

This talented player transferred from California to Indiana and has recorded 2,980 passing yards coupled with an impressive 33 touchdowns this season, while only tossing six interceptions. Mendoza’s contributions have been crucial in Indiana’s success, especially during pivotal moments of their games.

On the other hand, Sane will also be vying for a national title with the Buckeyes, who are the No. 2 seed following their loss to Indiana in the conference championship. Sane faced competition for a starting role over the summer but has adjusted remarkably, despite lacking extensive college experience.

With the aid of standout wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate, Sane has thrown for 3,329 yards and 31 touchdowns, leading the nation with an impressive completion percentage of 78.4.

Even though Notre Dame didn’t make the playoff cut, Jeremiah Love has established himself as a standout running back. In his junior year, he accumulated 1,372 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns, showing significant improvement from his sophomore season.

Pavia is somewhat of a wildcard in this batch of finalists. He has been quite vocal about his candidacy and has played a key role in putting Vanderbilt under the national spotlight these last two years. This season, he racked up 3,192 passing yards and threw for 27 touchdowns.

The Heisman Trophy ceremony is slated for Saturday.
