“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg on Tuesday endorsed country star Carrie Underwood's upcoming performance at President-elect Trump's inauguration.
“If I believe I have the right to decide to perform somewhere, I believe they have the same right…I have to support,” Goldberg said on “The View.” spoke.
“[Doesn’t] I mean, I'm particularly interested in things that I don't see, right? But that’s me,” she added.
It's notable that the comments about Underwood's inauguration performance came from Goldberg, who is generally a harsh critic of Trump.
Underwood is scheduled to perform “America the Beautiful” next Monday ahead of President Trump's formal swearing-in. In a statement to USA Today, the country music star said, “I have love for our country and was honored to be asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event.” I think so.''
“I am humbled to answer this call at a time when we all need to come together in a spirit of unity and look to the future,” she added.
Trump's first presidential inauguration eight years ago struggled to attract key celebrities amid mounting criticism and concerns about how he would lead after a divisive 2016 campaign.
“You look like Joe. [Scarborough] And Mika [Brzezinski]. … They felt like that's what they had to do, and I have to stand behind them,” Goldberg said of the MSNBC co-host's interview with the president-elect in November. mentioned Underwood's performance on Tuesday's episode, referring to the meeting.
