Controversy on “The View” as Whoopi Goldberg Responds to Sunny Hostin’s Note
On Monday’s episode of “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg found herself in a bit of a comedic conflict with her co-host, Sunny Hostin. This occurred while they were discussing former President Donald Trump’s recent interview on “60 Minutes.” Hostin had pointed out that Trump had granted a pardon to Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, the convicted founder of Binance, and mentioned that Trump seemed unaware of this during his conversation.
Hostin raised a point about the Trump family’s substantial financial gains from the government, highlighting a contradiction in the current state of affairs. “The Trump family makes about $1.8 billion and benefits from this government. Joe Biden used an autopen to say he doesn’t know who he’s pardoning. Why don’t we know who this guy is?” she questioned.
Goldberg, in her typical humorous style, quipped, “He was using an autopen.” But things took a turn when Hostin passed her a note during the program. The note apparently prompted Goldberg to react with confusion, exclaiming, “What the hell? What?” She then clarified that she wasn’t certain if Trump actually used an autopen but emphasized that her initial comment was meant as a joke.
In a moment of theatrical flair, Goldberg tore up the memo in front of the audience, insisting on getting to the heart of the matter. Hostin reiterated that she didn’t know if Trump had truly used an autopen for the pardon.
Goldberg expressed frustration, stating, “The hardest thing about this job right now is that no one understands the nuances.” She elaborated that when she makes a joke, it’s clear when she’s being lighthearted. The audience applauded as she continued to critique the former president’s immigration policies.
Goldberg’s remarks highlighted ongoing discussions about immigration and how the system treats individuals legally pursuing their status. She pointed out the unfairness faced by those showing up for court proceedings, criticizing the treatment of immigrants and questioning the government’s approach.
