Rob Reiner Remembered by Whoopi Goldberg Following His Death

On Monday, Whoopi Goldberg reflected on the life of Rob Reiner, describing him as “a great director and stand-up guy,” in light of the shocking news of his passing. She shared her experience of working with him on the film “Ghosts of Mississippi,” released in 1996. Goldberg emphasized Reiner’s role as an outspoken activist as well.

“He’s a very nice guy,” she noted, adding, “He’s a really great guy.” Tragically, Reiner and his wife, Michelle, were discovered deceased in their Brentwood, California home, according to law enforcement. Their son, Nick Reiner, has since been taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department on suspicion of murder.

Tributes to Rob Reiner

Goldberg recalled seeing Reiner at the 2023 Kennedy Center Honors, an event honoring actor Billy Crystal. “We used to hang out a lot, and he was a great coach and a stand-up guy,” she said.

Ana Navarro, a co-host on “The View,” also paid tribute to Reiner, calling him an “often outspoken advocate and defender of democracy.” Reiner was known for his liberal activism and support for the Democratic Party. “He put his money and his mouth where his heart was,” Navarro remarked.

Numerous celebrities echoed similar sentiments, recalling Reiner’s remarkable career as a director and friend. Stephen King expressed his dismay, stating he was “horrified and sad” by the news. King, who had his novel adapted into Reiner’s “Stand by Me,” referred to him as a “great friend, political ally, and talented filmmaker,” adding, “Rest in peace, Rob. You were always on my side.”

Ben Stiller also shared his thoughts, remarking, “He made some of the most formative films for my generation.” He categorized “Spinal Tap” as one of the greatest comedies ever, highlighting Reiner’s legacy as both a kind person and a brilliant comedic mind.
